Keep flies away

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

A neighbour of mine planted an Indian Bean Tree in her garden as that was supposed to deter flies... not sure whether it worked as we moved away.

I don,t think the woodland variety is very floral
If I remember correctly, it isn,t very pleasant at all. Works though

The turks use a local cannabis plant to keep away flies and it really works :dave:

Or in an emergency outside, a quick dab of your own urine will keep biting insects off. That really works too - but I've only resorted to it in Indonesia where we were attacked by huge dragonfly-type things. Our guide demonstrated the weeing-on-the-hands trick but I declined a sprinkle of his... :pale:

I think I have yummy blood cos I get eaten alive from May to September.
The Avon stuff is great, works on horses too!
Eat more garlic
Apple Cider Vinegar, take some daily ( or a tablet) and splash it on your skin, diluted if you prefer. It doesn't smell when it dries. ACV is great for skin and hair anyway so the fly repelling is a bonus!
Wormwood, tansy, basil and mint are all supposed to repel flies, can't say I've had much luck with that though.

If all else fails open a pot of jam somewhere you're not
