Hello peeps!

It's a long time since I came here (in my previous guise as MyLovelyHorse... I have no idea what my login details were, so have registered again).

Since moving to France, just over 18 months ago, I've been rediscovering the joys of knitting. I'm in sock mode at the moment. Here's the latest pair:

I've been learning how to spin, which is a joy and a wonder. I'll post photos from that in a separate post though... I've also been learning how to weave, which looks like it could become positively addictive.

And last, but not least, I've been felting:

I've joined a very lovely group of spinners and weavers here in South West France, and am learning so much from them. If there's anyone else out there interested in coming along (they meet monthly, near Montaubon), let me know!

Really lovely things, especially socks! Feeling vastly inferior now as I can knit andmake felt but cannot get on with weaving at all....good luck with yours.

I love knitting socks - which is just as well, as I'm taking part in a small Ravelry challenge to knit 7 pairs this year. I'm onto pair No 5 at the moment, so right on track.

Let's wait until I've got some weaving to show off, before anyone starts feeling inferior!

Yes, they took me quite a while - but I can usually only manage to knit for about 20-30 minutes a day, so some projects do go on for quite a few weeks/months. But these took ages 'cos they were (I hate to say this) sooooo boring to knit! I'd never really done any colourwork before, and knitting these has taught me that I really don't enjoy it - so I won't be doing any more of these until I've forgotten just what a pain they were...
Back to cables and lacy things, as they're FAR more interesting to knit!

The only thing worse than knitting the second sock was the thought of NOT knitting it, and having it festering in a corner, looking at me, and stopping me from enjoying any other knitting until IT had been done.

love the socks.maybe I will get around to trying to knit some this winter - I have always thought them very complicated so have left well alone. Love the bag also.

Go for it! It's just a matter of straight knitting, all the way. Either in one colour or the other. Not difficult, but it does look impressive!

If it's the DPNs that you're worried about, look for a sox on two sticks pattern (I think that's what it's called). I've made a pair from it.

I can't get on with DPNs to make socks. Everything is fine until I hit the ankle, then it all goes wrong

I love DPNS, but couldn't get on until I did the Knitty Socks 101 pattern a couple of times. I've now made two practises, a pair of baby socks and a pair of decorative ones for hanging on the tree....

I've tried a few times, but me and DPNs are just not friends

I'm trying a pair of crochet socks at the moment - they're in the second stage of crocheting, I did something wrong the first time and they got disastrous.

I've made the sox on two sticks a couple of times and they usually come out well, so I'll stick to them.
