Old VHSs
Am trying to clear our loft and OH has what looks like a million old VHS tapes up there which we can't play. Goodness knows why he bought them all (before me :)) but that's another story. Anyway, any ideas what we can do with them? I've asked a few charity shops and they tell me that there is no call for them anymore and the only place I can find that will recycle them is down in Bristol which is miles away and the postage / transport would be silly. Any ideas welcome but obviously I don't want to pull them apart randomly due to the nasties in there.
Re: Old VHSs
You can still get VHS recorders in a VHS/DVD combination, so you could always spend a few months watching them again.
I have one and you can record the tapes onto DVD if you come across a gem.

Looking at them they're mostly not my cup of tea at all - loads of scifi and shoot them up films but there you go. I just want to clear out and don't want them going to land fill.

Sometimes things that you can't give away will actually sell on e-bay. If you're on there wait until a free listing day and stick them on as a job lot. You won't make a fortune but you may have enough for a round of drinks , here's a completed listings page to give you an idea - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=v ... Complete=1
alternatively there are carboots. My wife does them occasionally and gets around a pound for 4-5-6 videos.

How about doing a crafty recycle: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/43650/ ... s/page/all

The first thing I thought was how it'd be fun to stick them together like bricks to make a retro style planter, not sure if glue would be strong enough to hold them together if it were to carry that much mud though.

Re: Old VHSs
Reviving this one because my OH recently said something about VHS tapes being un-everythingable, and as much as I wracked my inventive little brain cells (all two of 'em), I couldn't get much beyond knitting bags etc with the tape, which would of course deteriorate fairly soon after, therefore pointless. The tape is also full of undesirable chemical stuff we don't want going into the ground where we're growing food when it falls to bits, otherwise I'd be using it like twine.
I do like the idea of joining them together and making them into bricks or something, could even use the tape itself to thread through the winding holes if glue isn't effective.

I ended up putting them in boxes in the loft for now until somebody comes up with a viable plan as I've realised that I'll never think anything decent up ;)

1. Freecycle - there may be someone out there with the facility.
2. eBay - you can sell all sorts there
3. Car boot sale.
4. Local charity shop.
5. Put outside your front gate on table with a notice saying please take, leave a donation if you want.
