For good reasons, they don't like people building houses in the open countryside. Having recently got permission to build in the woods after a 3 year process of proving that we have a viable business that requires residence, we would discribe the rules as well-intentioned but overly beaurocratic.

The latest planning guidance means is so vague that big companies with expensive lawyers will be able to argue for almost anything. (plus of course those brown envelopes do oil the wheels well)
