Like somebody further up this thread has said, I don't really have any problems with eating any times of meat (I find it slighly hypocritical to be selective about it based on cuteness etc) but have a major problem with the lack of traceability here. We should know exactly what we are buying and from where it has come. I don't buy any meat from supermarkets as I find the quality terrible and the relatively small amount we do eat comes from either the farmer or butcher. It is varied though, quite happily eat goat, ostritch etc as available and have eaten kangaroo in the past as well as various game animals / birds. What does confuse me is why people are more up in arms over the horse than then pig, there are many people who avoid pig products for religious reasons who would be very upset to discover they'd eaten it accidentenly regardless of there being no health issue.

Like I said in the OP, I know people do eat horse and that's fine if that's what you choose to eat. Personally I don't eat horse and have no wish to. If I buy meat that is labelled as beef then that's exactly what I expect to get.

The Govt has announced that there is no health threat from this meat and I do trust that. It is the labeling that really hacks me off. Ireland does a lot of international trade in meat products, claiming high standards and purity but apparently not honesty

I would love to raise my own animals but that is not possible at the moment, so I'll be visiting the local butcher and trusting that I'm getting what I ask for...or maybe just eating a lot more veg.

Well, if the latest revelations have put you off T***o burgers, try the meatballs instead. They're the dogs bollocks!

But don't worry, Veggie burgers have been tested and found to contain traces of uniquorn

Just be careful when you suggest getting a burger from the Nag's Head...they might take it too literally!
