A short, sweet post that is a day later than planned. I blame a busy life!
Lets make one thing absolutely clear!
Yew will kill you!!!
It literally stops your heart and it is goodnight forever!
However there is one edible part!
The part you can eat is the fleshy red aril that surrounds the seed.
The seed will kill you!!!
Here is the aril coated seed.....
This week whilst mooching near my local churchyard looking for Chicken of the Woods, I wandered amongst the graves to eat a few yew arils. (Spitting the inner seed away of course)
They taste a little like a mulberry but not quite as sweet.
Is the risk worth it?
For me the answer is yes, BUT you must decide for yourself.
Please, please, please do your own research and if you do try, just try a couple. These are not to be eaten with gusto!
