Re: Newbie wine making instructions
When you try your next bottle try decanting it. We've never had brilliant success with our reds (although we've not made grape except from kits ) but they are improved a little from chambring (spell?). The other thing is it's difficult to calculate the tannin levels in homemade wines. So they may well still improve for another year, or even two

Sorry, I should have said that this is white wine, from my greenhouse full of white grapes.
I did allow it to breathe for about half an hour but it made little difference, and it was brilliantly clear with no sediment so didn't need decanting.
I'll maybe try another bottle in September/October and again next summer, then if it still tastes the same I'll know what to do.
It's probably a good idea NOT to try and make wine this year anyway, with the distinct lack of sunshine the sugar levels will probably be rock bottom.

Re: Newbie wine making instructions
White wines still have a little tannin, so just be patient.
With homemade wines decant isn't necessarily about sediment, it helps with aerating it. Works a lot quicker than leaving it open in the bottle. That's my experience anyway.
Where's mkg when we need him!
