Anyway, I was looking into some cool things to do in Malaysia just the other day, since I am planning a trip there, and I came across something really cool.
It is a sustainable eco tourism program. Unlike other places that draw people in to appreciate the wildlife and eco-terrain in a way that is actually quite harmful to the environment, this program is quite different. It is a kind of voluntourism. You volunteer with conservation efforts and scientific research for sustainability with some of the country's most amazing and endangered species, like their projects with tigers and turtles.
I do a lot of travelling and I know that it has its effect on the environment. It would really be nice to be able to travel with a purpose and do some good.
I think it's a really cool idea and I'm definitely working it into my Malaysia travel plans. What do you guys think?

I'd love to travel to far away places, too - but I think the best I can do for the environment is stay close to home. Fortunately, there is still so much of Scotland that I haven't seen yet...

Re: Sustainable Eco Tourism
I honestly don't think there is such a thing as Sustainable Eco tourism if you have arrived by plane, no matter how much you would like to dress it up and pretend that you are doing something eco. The most eco thing to do, would be to donate the money to the cause so as they could employ local people to do the surveys and the work.
