A quick hello

Post: # 28598Post tomtom »

Stumbled upon this site by accident and I'm glad I did.
We currently live in the South of France and are trying our best to be self sufficient-ish. It's bloody hard work and a very steep lurning curve for us novices!
Just inherited a cock, a hen and five chicks, which is where my search and arrival here began.
The weather here has been hot and dry here this year (I can almost hear the outpouring of sympathy). Very difficult conditions for our first crop. Next year, armed with the help I will call on here, I expect a better yield.
That's about it for now
Hello all!

Hi Tomtom. Yes we've all suffered with the drought and heat this year, it has been tough for growing and discouraging for beginners. You don't seem too disheartened though, still confident it'll be better next year. That's great. When we took on our allotment my eldest who's 8 wanted to plant bananas. I think maybe we should have let him, we've had the right weather for them this year!

Hi Tom, and welcome to the site!

You are not the only one suffering from the drought this year. According to the news, everywhere in Europe veggie yields are down by up to 40%. We are just having the first real rain in over 3 weeks - and that's Scotland! Plus it's been a lot hotter than usual, so I seem to have been watering non-stop...

I'm sure it'll be better for all of us next year! I envy you your chickens, btw... One of those things on my "to-do and to-get" list.

Your always in for a hot and dry one Nev

Welcome to the site tomtom and acutually I think this might be one of the few places you would get sympathy for hot and dry weather.

Hi Tomtom, whereabouts in the south are you? Hot and dry sounds about normal for summer in those parts of France. That's why I moved to the north west, but it is hot and dry here too!!!

Anyway, welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it!
