Gentian
Gentian
Basically does what does anyone know about it. Can it be grown in the UK, if so is it one you have to look after or is it happy left to itself, is it easy to get hold of, is it even worth growing (with thoughts to harvest the roots for bitterness)?

Re: Gentian
It is a mountain herb and you can make a liqueur from it, using the roots.
Re: Gentian
Using the roots as bittering agent for liqueurs is what I'm interested in, I'm mainly wondering if it's possible, and worthwhile, to grow in Cheshire, or if I should think of finding a different bittering agent.

Re: Gentian
In Italy it grows in mountainous areas, even at great heights, therefore you would definitely need a cool environment...does it get cold in the winter where you are?
Re: Gentian
Coolish, typical UK weather (i.e. who knows what it's going to do), my main thing is if they're happy to look after themselves as I am a (very) inattentive gardener, so there'd be no point me thinking of growing something that needs a lot of looking after.
