Changing seasons dinner

Tonight's dinner was a side salad made from the last Winter Gem lettuce and the first Home Guard new potatoes, new season tomatoes, along with radishes and snipped chives.
To go with it was a chunk of salmon fried in butter and then drenched in cream with prawns added .

Very nice it was too, and a revelation that chopped lettuce and warm cream go together amazingly well.
Unfortunately 'tis all but a distant memory now.

Sounds delicious. Nothing home produced (except the cooking) for us, I'm afraid, but we did have a rather delicious seafood stew - part of the trying to empty one of the freezers crusade). Chorizo, squid, mussels and prawns in an extremely pleasant spicy tomato and coconut milk broth. So good we had seconds.

when did you plant the Home Guard, I am still waiting for mine to do something, I was going to plant some last Autumn but forgot

This lot were planted on 27th of January in the tunnel.
I planted another couple of rows on 2nd of February along with 2 rows of Winston. The 2nd lot of Home Guard look almost ready where the Winston (supposed to be very early) are barely up.

My purple sprouting broccoli is just coming into its own - so that's my veg sorted for the next few weeks... Rocket is going into its third season (turning into a perennial plant!), and I also pick young lovage for my salad. Plus chives, of course. Oh, and beetroot leaves (sown too late last year to bulk up - but the leaves come in handy now).

I reckon mine should be ready soon, they were planted first week of February, sometimes they don't look ready but they have some little fella's hiding in there

Definitely a winter dinner tonight.
Roasted boned & rolled turkey thigh from the Christmas turkey, roast potatoes and Christmas pudding.
The only thing different is instead of sprouts we're having spring cabbage, oh and greek yoghurt with the pud instead of brandy butter.

We are having little cottage loaves, chicken and bacon in a cream and brandy sauce en croute with mashed sweet potatoes and a medley of veg from the garden cooked in butter and to follow a Gaelic coffee trifle, later on myself, partner and two friends will be having a coronary

Roast beef, yorkshire pudding and veg. Followed by chocolate lava cake. I love this diet!

Now that clever John has mended the bit that allows you to display pictures, I can show you what my potatoes look like.

The 2 rows in the front are Home Guard that were planted on 2nd of February and the next 2 rows are Winston, also planted on the 2nd and are looking distinctly unhappy.
The right hand half of the 5th row are Home Guard again and the left half are Mayan Gold, both planted in January.
Beyond that lot are follow on Home Guard and Duke of York planted on the 30th of March.
