Hops
Hops
Anyone growing hops in Lancashire latitudes ?
Got any tips?
I've had some random hop variety self-seeding/propagating in my garden for ages and I made some beer with them last year... now I want to grow a recognised variety.

Re: Hops
A neighbour used to grow them in his greenhouse, if I remember correctly, but I've not known anyone growing them outdoors.

Re: Hops
I remember when I lived in Scotland that there was reputed to be an old settlement site at the bottom end of Loch Lomond that had hops. As I grew up involved in hops I just HAD to go and find them, and sure enough they do grow (and ripen) in Dunbartonshire, at 56 degrees north.
I grow them here purely for nostalgic reasons but they only ripen some years, too humid and not warm enough summers. (at 51 degrees north )

Well, they are now planted. So we shall see.... only 6 feet away from the vigorous random hops growing out of the borderlands/wastelands. Hop poles and stringing to sort too. Looking forward to this.
