Snapped Plum branches.

Post: # 30439Post kevin m. »

Our 'Victoria' Plum tree was planted three years ago,and has produced a first, bumper crop of delicious fruit this year.
However,I was a bit greedy, and didn't thin the fruit out.
Unfortunately (and it's totally my own fault),the weight of fruit caused one of the main branches to split almost in half, away from the trunk. We have bound it with strong tape, and supported it,so my question is-will the branch 'heal' in time,or is it a case of some major pruning to remove the branch cleanly?
