My 3 Pet hates

Post: # 33121Post Andy Hamilton »

Whilst getting irrated by drivers who park on cycle paths and don't think they are doing a thing wrong I contemplated whether or not I was wound up enough for it to be in my top 3 of pet hates. Perhaps not. Anyway this topic could get heated, knowing you lot if it does it will be unintentional and simmer back down again anyway. SO don't go taking anything personal you hear.

1. overuse of plastics (including carrier bags, packaging etc)
2. Narrow minded people and this can be on both sides of an argument, people who fly all the time, eat ready meals and think that the world will sort it's self out as well as eco-fashists(don't wan't to go into too much detail but I think you know what I mean.
3. politicains.

bubbling under

Reality tv, purfume (allergic), drivers who disregard cyclists, frequent flyers, T***o.......

(I think I have that monday morning feeling.

I'll have to give this some thought - my Monday morning feeling would mean my list would amount to more than 3!!!

Will get round to contributing to this thread. There's nothing I enjoy more than a good rant
However, I'm going to leave it a while ... I've had sinusitis for the last week; the reward for which is I'm parting company with a tooth later today ... :? So best not to start a list now.

1. liars.
2. people who believe their way of life is best. Whether they be 8 bed detached with 6 cars who thinks money is best or the total self sufficientist who thinks they are better than me cos they grow all their own, etc. No 1 way is the right way. We all have to choose the route for ourselves, whilst trying not to take a superior stance.
3. vindictiveness

Sub list
Sprouts!! YUK
Neighbours
traffic lights
motorbike/cyclists who disregard the rules of the road.

daffodil - is that real naighbours? or the soap of aussie origin?

mine:

1. Liars (espscially lying men - you can guess what kind of weekend i had!)
2. People who don't believe in recycling and making the planet a nicer place for all out grandchildren.
3. People who can't be bothered. Mainly, this has to do with spelling and grammar. I have an english degree, and i'm getting a bit sick and tired of correcting company notices. I don't mind if its personal email, or personal correspondance, or forum messages, or anythign that's not professional., or projecting a face. I hate the fact that there's some lazy eejit up in head office that just types stuff out, spellchecks it and then sends it round the company. its a worldwide company, and they just send it...like that...round the world. A little while ago, in the heat we had a 'server' weather warning, and got told not to 'loose' our tempers. That annoyed me...

hmm

Just missing the bottom of the list:

Other people in general
Cats
Cat owners
American supposed comedies with the canned laughter
People who think its funny to try to knock my book out of my hands as i'm walking along

1) People who can't see someone else's point of view (whatever the topic)
2) Bad drivers
3) People who think I should have children "just" because I'm married

Argh! You can tell what kind of a weekend I've had. I hate family gatherings, people just ask when we're having children as "you've been married 4 years, what's wrong?"

I've taken to saying "We don't want to breed, thank you" I'll have children when I'm ready....

Ok, calm down girl.....

That's what I was trying to get at with my number 2. I hate it (and it is normally blokes that do it) when you get someone forcing their point of view on you and telling you to do something there way as it is the right way.

mmm. Well, have just sat here scratching my head and staring at the screen for ages...

I can't think of a pet hate. Hate is a strong word, isn't it?

I'm really not very easily offended and even when folks do or say things that are in direct contrast to my values, beliefs or what I have actually done, I tend to just acknowledge their right to speak or their perspective and just state my view. Funny thing is, I guess, I've never much felt that people agreed with me anyway so maybe I am just used to having differing opinions  or generally feeling misunderstood. LOL.

I dunno. I accept liars are liars and just look them in the eye. Truth is liars usually always run away when you do that, so its not like you have to keep dealing with them.

...and the pompous ones who insist they are right, they are just bullies... lonely usually. Often they have been given power and misused it, so it is taken away. Then they act out because they are lost without it.

The poor grammar thing used to bug me too, until I began publishing a newspaper and old biddies would ring me each week without fail, to tell me I had mispelt one word after preparing and printing 28 pages with barely any sleep and constant demands. I will never complain about a printing error again...

I love people... their idiosyncracies... their humanity or lack of it... the way they communicate... or what they will defend...I like looking at the way they treat their mothers and then how they treat a dog or a noisy kid... things like that amuse and interest me.

I think my pet hates would probably be way too simple... pathetic probably.

It bugs me when my daughter takes stuff off my desk and then loses it. (My stapler has been missing for 2 weeks now!)

It bugs me that I am always the one who has to pick up the toilet paper wrapper off the floor and put it in the bin next to the loo, and then put the open and used roll on the dispenser. I may never work that one out.

And I don't like mobbing behaviours... when folks gang up on things or people. Whenever I see that, I distrust their issue, because I figure if it was valid it would have made a difference when the first person said it. I don't support mobbing. I figure 50 people could tell me my house was on fire, but I wouldn't turn the hose on until I smelt smoke.

1. Apostrophe's in the wrong places'. (gaaah)

2. American foreign policy

3. What busydaffodill said about people who believe their way of life is best :flower:

Nearly making the top three... having to say I don't want a carrier bag five times a day, little brothers who borrow your stuff and lose it (hasn't happened for years to be fair), SUVs.

1. Bullying (in any form, for any reason)
2. Small talk: where it takes the form of repeating the same question; if you're going to ask a question at least be interested in the answer!
3. Misuse of the letter 's' in plurals (especially in relation to apostrophes)

vying closely for the top spot:
'diet' lucozade (it's a glucose drink ...)
lateness
Selotape

(Bet you psychologists are just loving this post ...)

1. Acceptance culture and the lack of political and corporate accountability. "Just accept this", "just accept that", "it's nobody's fault - well, apart from the sponging asylym seeker mopping the floor", "who, us?". Question everything and especially yourself. Be accountable and take responsibility.

2. Over-management and reduction of risk. Get a life, and know you're alive. Okay, doing some things is unredeemably stupid but hey if no-one gives anything a shot then we're all doomed to be boring, anodyne drudges. Urgh. Take a chance, do something different, let your kids explore the world, and be alive for at least some of the time.

3. Consumerism, globalisation and neoliberalist capitalism. Phew, just writing that gives me the horrors. We don't need to consume more and more and more, we don't need everything to be cheaper and cheaper and cheaper, and we don't need an ever lighter hand to allow the big corporations to dominate the so-called free market. Stuff the lot of it.

This is a much abbreviated and toned down version of my original (well, three original) rants. Now, I'm off to lie down, take my funny pills and watch pink elephants serenading yellow crocodiles....

No, really!
