Feeling very self sufficientish at the moment!

Post: # 33753Post Wombat »

It's been a busy day -

Washing the clothes with tank water and solar power,
Cooked a quiche in the solar oven;
cooked the bacon for the quiche on the reflecting solar cooker,
boiled some water on the reflecting solar cooker for coffee etc.
Made a new surround for the veggie patch using the circular saw through the inverter,
Harvested a dozen eggs form the chooks
Planted seeds and planted out seedlings as well as potted on some seedlings
Made bread in the solar oven,

and now I'm off to make some lemon cordial (using hot water from the solar cooker! :mrgreen:

Legendary One!

An inverter is a "black box" that converts 12 Volts DC to 240 volts AC. So that I can use the power generated by the solar panels to run 240 volt appliances! :mrgreen:

Boots, The oven I used was the one in the photo on the front page of the SSish site! I dunno how long it cooked for, I suppose about an hour. With the glass front I just keep it in there until it looks done. It did make a bloody awful mess though, I didn't level the oven first and some spilled into the inside and burned on. I had to remove the bottom steel plate, scrub it and the re-apply some matt black paint. :?

Thanks Andy :wink:

Heaps impressed Nev. Just ducked over to check out the article, and don't think I have spotted it before.

That is way cool. Can you give me a rough idea of time... like is it comparative to an electric oven then if it reaches 160?

You know... you could rig up a dumb-waiter-like set up (pulleys etc) and cook your meal in the roof! How cool would that be? :mrgreen: Raise the oven itself up to the glass and reflectors and have them rigged up permanently on the roof.

If the glass and reflectors were horizontal and upward facing, would you still have to move it? And does this mean you have to cook during the middle of the day for best results?
