Bristol city council are putting up a huge fence around our allotments soon. There has been one incident in the last 40 years and nothing got stolen then. I think it is a bit of a waste of time and money.
Anyway, has anyone else had a huge fence put up? Does it cause any disruption?

We have a biggish fence around the allotments and toerags get in anyway. I've planted a bunch of blackberries, gooseberries and hawthorns. When they've grown a bit they'll be more effective than a fence. But I can only stop them coming in my bit of fence, everybody would have to do it all the way around the perimeter, really.

Ah yes, being a Bristol City Coucil allotment tenant myself I know the type of fence you mean. We have it around half of our site- the other half is backed onto by private gardens. Kids do still get in, but they have to try a bit harder. They certainly can't come in on their bikes and hare around like they did before. We seem to have more trouble with the unfenced bits, as the local residents trespass and fly tip over their back fences, some of which are only a couple of feet high.
Yes, I see your point about money, and I could always find things I consider more worthwhile for them to spend it on but the fence isn't a bad thing- at least they are giving your site a bit of attention.
As for disruption when the fence is put it, I don't know I'm afraid. Ours went up shortly before I became a tenant.
Which site are you on btw?
