Boy, three, buys car on internet

Post: # 34722Post Shirley »

Better put those parental controls on my computer too!!!!

This from bbc.co.uk

Jack bought a pink Nissan on an internet site
A three-year-old boy has used his mother's computer to buy a £9,000 car on an internet auction site.
Jack Neal's parents only discovered their son's successful bid when they received a message from eBay about the Barbie pink Nissan Figaro.

Rachael Neal, 36, said her son was quite good at using the computer.

Mrs Neal, of Sleaford, Lincolnshire, said she had left her eBay password in her computer and her son had used the "buy it now" button.

She said: "Jack's a whizz on the PC and just pressed all the right buttons."

The car was a £9,000 pink Nissan Figaro

"I was just horrified," she said.

"We now have the parental locks on - and we make sure we sign out of eBay!"

Her husband John, 37, called the seller of the car and explained the mistake.

"Luckily he saw the funny side and said he would re-advertise," Mrs Neal added.

The seller of the soft-top second-hand car, Paul Jones, co-director of Worcester Road Motors in Stourport-on-Severn, near Kidderminster, Worcestershire, said he had been "amused" by the bid.

It is the first time the car dealership has sold a car on the site, Mr Jones said.

Oh... that reminds me of when my daughter rang one of those Infocommercials when I fell asleep with the TV on. She woke up and heard the Ring Now! and Change your life forever! rubbish and ordered me a you beaut gym set with the whole kit and kaboodle because

"Mum really wants to get rid of her big bum!"

Aaaaaah. Nearly died... this woman rang back the next morning to scold me mercilessly about being an atrociously neglectful mother! Turns out my cluey 3 year old had my credit card details handy too!

Never underestimate the intelligence of a toddler!

Well, don't think I was laughing at the time either.

Nearly ended up paying for a monstrous gym setup for a year!... Despite the womans angry attitude, thank goodness she didn't process it!

My kid meant well... she knew I was trying to find gym fees and just listened to all the 'solutions' the ad provided and thought I'd be wrapped with present. She's still good with numbers... and walks round with a phone attached to her head. The signs were there very early!

Are you are talking about ebay Fee? I have only ever received the 'my daughter put on the bid' thing once and the daughter was an adult! An old girl was stuck paying for a stack of stuff after her daughter came to visit and bid on heaps of things, then left with a "Let me know what we win and I'll fix you up, Mum." I offered to just relist and let Mum off the hook, because she was paying everyone in $10 installments trying to set things right. She was heaps upset. I guess I was lucky with that, as she was true to her word and paid it off, even though I kept telling her not to worry. Does it happen a lot over there? Can't really imagine it being real too often as the bids are all password protected. My girls often shop on ebay but they have to come to me if they want to actually bid on something and then we can talk about how much they are willing to pay and actually have to spend etc. Only a complete nutcase would walk away from a computer signed into an auction, eh? Far out, makes me shudder at the thought...

Yes, happens a lot. I've also had "my dog made a bid", "my granny was just fooling around and didn't know what she was doing", and, probably the only true one, "I was completely rat arsed at the time".

Unfortunately, yes, there are a lot of people who claimt hat their son/daughter bid on things.

The last one had 6 unpaid item notices by the time the auction ended. Her 'son' had bid for the item 5 days previously and it hadn't occurred to her to check her e-bay at all. Funnily, all the people who'd given her negatives had the same story.

Its irritating because you lose the listing fee, and the final value fee if you're not careful.

Another one took a month to pay, by then i'd had enough of her excuses and gave her a negative and an unpaid item strike. I wasn't tyhe first person to have the same trouble!

I sell on Amazon market place as you set a fee and get it. Seems a much fairer way. Never had any trouble with canceled orders either.
