Email scam targeting childminders

Post: # 35684Post PurpleDragon »

Turriff Advertiser of today's date :

The Scottish Childminding Association has voiced its concerns over an email scam which seems to be speficially targeting childminders.

The association's helpline has been taking calls from concerned childminders who have recently received emails from abroad asking about their services from an alleged family or single parent relocating to the UK.

After a series of friendly correspondence, the emails progress on to asking for bank details and addresses so money can be sent directly to the childminder's account in preparation for the family arriving in the UK.

In some cases a cheque will be sent which will seemingly clear into the childminder's account.

On the same day, the 'parent' will call ro say THE WRONG AMOUNT HAS BEEN SENT, THEY WILL THEN ASK FOR ACCOUNT DETAILS TO AMEND THE MISTAKE.

iT IS AT THIS POINT THAT A LARGE CHUNK OF MONEY WILL GO MISSING AND THE 'FAMILY' WILL DISAPPEAR.

(Sorry bout the caps - capslock went on and I didnt notice)Turriff
