renaming knock your self out
Reading one of Gunners post about becoming a regular got me to thinking...
Perhaps we could rename this section
The Selfsufficientish Local.
with a new blurb saying
A place to unwind relax and meet up with friends both new and old. The place to have the freedom to say what you like about what you like.

howsabout whizzing off at a bit of a tangent, and calling it "The Village Pump"? - traditionally, a place to meet, and exchange general banter and gossip! (and less intimidating to the timid than a "bar"

I think that has been done on another site, I have not seen the local elsewhere.Martin wrote:howsabout whizzing off at a bit of a tangent, and calling it "The Village Pump"? - traditionally, a place to meet, and exchange general banter and gossip! (and less intimidating to the timid than a "bar")
And yes I think you are right about that line, could result in some uglyness. - although we do try and allow as much uncensored stuff as possible on here. - Its rare that I have deleted stuff.

I think "knock yourself out" can be interpreted as challenging or possibly inciteful. So if there were going to be any bar room blues, I think they would have already happened under that heading... but at the same time, the phrase does run through my head when folks get, um, shall we call it passionate.... Always makes me laugh and I think. "Ah, Knock yourself out!!!" as I go to another thread.
The "Local" may also be interpreted as exclusive for those who are not comfortable yet, or not local, as in the UK.... Dunno, just thought I'd throw that in. I very rarely go to the Homebrew thread, cos I'm not into booze, so I often have to remind myself there might be other stuff in there (crafts, preserves or whatever else belongs there, can't remember!) because I tend to just skip it. Another couple of sites I visit both have pub threads, but they tend to be used for bawdy jokes about bikers, blondes and well, partner whingeing and ranting really.
Doesn't worry me what you call it really. When folks get together over here we tend to gather at the barbie or the bonfire, or sit on the verandah. Where do you all get together with friends? Round the woodfire maybe?
Down on the corner, out in the street, Willy and the poor boys are playing. Bring a nickel tap your feet....
Oh sorry, nickels are the US...
Voice from the heavens booms:
DON"T MENTION MUSIC BOOTS!!! LEARN WOMAN, LEARN!!!!

spiced indian tea, as drunk in Indian railway stations!
6 peppercorns, 6 cloves, handful of cardamoms, grind up in pestle and mortar, add a cinnamon stick, several slices of fresh ginger, ten heaped teaspoons of sugar, two indian tea bags, and half a tin of evaporated milk to about 2 pints of water - bring to boil, and allow to simmer very gently for at least half an hour - serve in small glass tumblers!
warming in winter, cooling in summer!
ps,it NEEDS the sugar, or you don't get all the spicey tastes- and the "evap" gives it an authentic Indian flavour!

Yep some good points there boots, perhaps we should think about jigging about the home brew section too so that it reads differently. Hmm will have to have a think.Boots wrote:I think "knock yourself out" can be interpreted as challenging or possibly inciteful.
