Much stricter
They are MUCH stricter about recycling in France..none of this can't be bothered lark. Maybe, as usual, we are too soft in England.

recycling
In France every village has a mayor. If we tried to slip some unofficial recyclable rubbish into the generic bins and the bin men discoverd it they would report it to the mayor. They would then seek to find out whose rubbish bag it was and we would get a visit from the mayor. We might get a slap on the wrist if it was a first offense but after that he would get very heavy.
We think the system of having a mayor (mairie) works really well, he knows what's going on in his village at all times. Also the "don't want to get involved" culture that exists in England does not happen here.
Every village gets paid for how much rubbish it recycles and this is used against community tax. Hence it is to every individuals benefit to recycle.
