Head lamps

Post: # 38989Post Stonehead »

Can anyone suggest a robust, water-proof head lamp that has a fairly bright light, please?

My last one didn't last six months (mind you, it only cost £5.99), so I'm looking for something a bit better. I'd prefer it used standard AAA batteries so I can have some recharging and some in the lamp.

Some of the LED head lamps are a bit dim for working with tools and animals, so a bright light is important. Battery life isn't as I usually don't use it for more than 20 minutes and the batteries can go on the charger.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and it must function in the cold!

Interesting, but not for winter! I need something that will go over my rolled stocking cap and it must be waterproof.

Thanks.

im a bit of a headlamp enthusiast...all my friends used to make miner jokes at me

what sort of price range are you looking at?

theres this one with the battery that goes inside your clothing

most petzyl stuff should be waterproof as its used for caving and cause the battery goes inside the clothes it works well in the cold

on edit

get the petzl mate, bomb proof, fits in yer pocket, runs forever on 3 AAAs, and it's not made in china! think i got one same as yours, petzl copy £5.99, fell apart when it came out of the box. stuck it together with tape cos i could not bare the thought of it flying back to hong kong so someone could send me another piece of crap back on another plane. would not have bought it in the first place if the advertiser had had the decency to say he was in hong kong, but thats eblag for you!

Agree with the above, having found out in the Glyders.
Quite pricey, I have had a basic model for quite a few years. I'm as yet to break it.

The band tends to get a bit wet though, so you might want to check out the alternatives?

The more powerful new ones are out of my reach, and I've been pipped at the post a couple of times on ebay. Will keep trying!

I'd prefer one of the ones that has both LEDs and Xenon, but suspect I'll end up with the Xenon only ones as they're cheaper.

Stonehead, have you considered asking for one on FreeCycle?
I'm sure someone must have one somewhere cluttering up a cupboard.
Bet you could get Mrs S a pair of non-leaky wellies at the same time :)
