my twopennyworth: I think Shiney had it right "The compensation nation" - it's not that councils think things shouldn't be allowed per se, it's that banning it is cheaper than fighting & potentially losing a compensation claim.

The increasingly litigious nature of society is another thing we've imported from the USA, which we'd have done better to leave there.

If I got hit on the head by a falling pear I'd think it was nature's way of telling the tree was there with fruit just waiting to be picked.

Do agree with you but it's crazy that this is now controlling what can and can't be done. Of course it's good to be safe but some things are just over the top. I also think that people have become so totally worried about everything (and ironically don't worry about what matters such as the planet and truely healthy food) when I think about the things my brother and me used to get up to - we must of been risking death everyday

Some of the things that go in in our local primary school leave me with my mouth hanging open.

When we had the good weather, they had to keep the kids inside for a day rather than let them out to play, because they didn't have written permission to put suntan lotion on them.

They aren't allowed to put their arms around a child who is hurt and crying - they have to comfort verbally.

I could go on. I shan't though.

In the school I last worked at I discovered a `wild area` complete with pond and wonderful range of native trees and plants. It was securely fenced and locked away. I asked the Head if the children used it and she merely said, "No, there are ants." :?
The only space the children had to play on was a tarmac yard!

oh my god!

PurpleDragon, my childrens old school used to be like that :( one time tried to say they couldn't tie my sons shoes laces for him cos they weren't allow  they even stopped people taking video/photos at school plays etc

school they go to now is better - my daughter used to come home from nursery with slips when she'd hurt herself saying ' sorry, your child..... today. treatment given - TLC'
I still had to sign to say they could put sun cream on and take photos - though in some cases the photo thing I can understand cos it could be a problem if a family have problems or crime victims etc

I used to work for a paper and every year we did a christmas play section with pictures from local schools of the kids and stuff and invariably we'd get a call from one of the schools saying one of the parents wants their child removed from the pic or can you not print our picture etc.... so many times I've had to transplant heads on photos !!!!!

This is not funny!
The Government is constantly make more and more ridiculous changes, such as this, and soon we will be ruled by a fachist state! Oh wait, I think we already are... This is truly ridiculous, and deserves to be seriously opposed, not mocked on small web forums.
Sorry about anger lol...
