GOOD DAY BAD DAY

Post: # 38950Post HILLDREAMER90 »

Encouraged by all the recipies on the site i set about picking some elderberries, have loads this year & have lots of cooking apples. so i thought i would have a go at jam. I got a big bag picked & noticed there were some good fire wood size branches on the elder. So i sawed the biggest ones off, leaving the smaller branches to grow. Then dragged them to my shed & sawed them into a decent pile of logs [enuff for a couple of cosy fires] fruit & firewood from the same tree, i felt V pleased with myself, allmost smug !! Anyway went to bed v late as usual & had lousy sleep, felt crap this morn. needed to go to the village to post a bill & buy sugar [for jam] got 2 bags coal, price had gone up 50p a bag!! [need bit of coal,as have open fire in lv room just now] on the way home thought i could hear a whrring noise under car [not sure could be my imagination] or wheel bearing etc, only had car a couple months,my 17 y o saab finaly went to the scrapyard in the sky. got a little citroen diesel,am experimenting with veg oil. stopped at my post box [1 mile at top of ruff farm road] usual load of bills & 1 hand written ? got in & it was from the solicitors in leeds.[my mum died a few months ago after a long battle with cancer] in a way it was a good thing,a cheque for £339.00 but in big letters it said JUDITH DIANE DECEASED i found it realy upsetting, ive been trying to just get on with life & not think too much about what happend [all a bit too hard] i guess grief is a strange thing. am going to spend the money on a woodstove so i have somthing solid to show for it. so yeh strange day.A.

Hugs mate....

I bet that was upsetting - grief is indeed a strange thing. My dad died of cancer a few years back now but it is still fresh in my mind, and that of my family.

I think buying a stove with that money is the best thing you can do - it's appropriate don't you think... something that will keep you warm and give you comfort.

I'd be interested to hear more about your veg oil experiments sometime.. it's something we are considering too.

Sorry you had such a crappy day Hilldreamer. Maybe your Ma was looking down and figured she'd brighten up the end of it.

Hugs.

I think that using the money to buy a stove is a wonderful way of remembering your mum. Every time you use it, and you get toasty feet and comfort, just remember all the good things you had with her.
As they say "Nobody can be considered gone if their memory is treasured". A good memorial to someone that meant so much to you.

BIG HUG

Got my new stove today   .drove over to the stove shop in Alford & chose 1, its a morso squirrel cleanburn, spent a lot more than i should have but hope it will last a long time.I think it will pay for itself in 18 months, compared to using the open fire,71%efficient!! so think my fuel bills will be halved  . its sat in the living room being admiered at the moment, will sweep the chimmney tomorow & try to figure out the best way to plumb it in.soooo xited, ive had a few old stoves over the years, freebies, all with various faults, this is my 1st new 1. I could carry on for ages about my new stove & bore you all but i,ll stop now.A.

Fantastic. You'll almost certainly feel a lot warmer as well. And rave on - it's always nice to hear when people are feeling cheery.

We have a very hard frost today - ground is frozen hard and the water troughs have 10-15mm of ice on top. Overnight temperature was -5C.

Lovely - the boys have been having fun smashing ice and romping around.
