So if loyalty cards collect personal information about you and the way you shop - then why pray tell, do they give me 50c (or more) off vouchers as part of my receipt for items I have never bought in my life and have no interest in?

I don't think they work very well!

well clearly they are trying to attract you to things you don't buy usually.

When I used to go to Tescos I did it like this - went around with my list, buying what I need, get to checkout, only then do I pull out my bundle of vouchers.. and if by chance I have bought anything that there is voucher for, then great.

They always sent me vouchers for fresh meat, as I never bought any there (bought from butchers) so always trying to tempt me. and Always the vouchers go out of date and into the recycling.

As to the hooray for re-using bag points :? at our local tescos you have to fight to get the points. I regularly have to go to the help desk because the checkout people just can't be bothered to put them on!

That is what I do as well. It doesnt influence my shopping at all. I often forget what the vouchers are for, in fact.
