Greenhouse

Post: # 42156Post Wombat »

Well, I'm conflicted again!

We just put a deposit on a new greenhouse, polycarbonate (sounds much better than "plastic) with double skin and UV coating. Smaller that the current one but a much better unit. The old one is falling apart and was only ever a temporary one. We have had some high winds lately and it almost blew away.

Not having the time to build one from scratch....................we bought one. It will look much better so Mrs Wombat is happy and will be much more stable so I'm happy too. But it did cost!

Yeah, well, sometimes you gotta let the folk who know/have the tie to do things do them for you (sorry - rubbish sentence!)

Congrats on the new greenhouse. I know you will be very happy together

Polycarbonate is extraordinarily tough stuff. I once had to re-roof someone's shed with twin walled stuff, and used a circular saw to cut it. Although it cut easily enough, I discovered that the ploycarbonate had stripped all the tungsten carbide tips off the saw teeth. Given the cost of a decent saw blade, I made a negative profit on that job.

It made me feel much better knowing that my motorbike crash helmet was made of the same stuff. But you're right - damned expensive.

sounds nice, they all seem so expensive. we got lucky, someone has given us a greenhouse. The catch is, as we are in a conservation area we have to get planning permission, thats not so bad either, but the insistance that we come up with elevation drawings does strike me as a stage too far. After all, we are talking about a totaly standard aluminium frame greenhouse. The lady on the phone was quite appologetic, but equally certain that our application would be returned if there were no plans with it.
How hard can it be, how long can it take. What could POSSIBLY go wrong
