But what a strange selection to choose from, don't you think? They want us to select a single icon that represents the British environment. Actually, when you think about it, why would we do that? How could we do that?

I find the whole thing rather a strange concept. 'Spose it depends what you mean by The Envoronment, or, indeed, an icon.

But a railway train? The Landrover (now owned by Ford)? Canals (transport of the industrial revolution)? The Anderton Boat Lift (ditto)? Even the nomination for broadleaf woodlands is supported by the comment that they provided the power for the industrial revolution (actually, I thought that was the coal mines), and references the warfighting song 'Hearts of Oak'.

Fred Dibnah would be proud of these. Like I say, I suppose it depends what you mean by The Enviorment.

Yep that is a mighty strange list, I guess the environment is just the area that you occupy - such as now I am in the office environment.

I swear that one of you mederators tampers with my posts during the night. Own up. I'm perfectly capable of spelling envonimaiovnatsdbuisment, and it was perfectly correct when it left my computer last night. You're just trying to make a laughing stock of me.

For a single entity that could represents the British environment surely we couldn't do better than 'T***o'...? Sorry, can't talk right now - my tongue seems to be stuck in my cheek...
