Gotta say I'm most impressed with your Christmas Avatar, Muddy.
Excellent to see you turnup in the spirit!

I am trying pretty hard not to be a miserable git about christmas, have has a few arguments about buying more decorations and about asking people not to give me cards or presents. Aparently I am not being green just miserable. - can't it be a bit of both

Doh, I love this time of year. I need something to look forward to in the midst of the dark & cold.
I've made cards for the special people (family, boyfriend & close friends) & bought charity cards for other friends. Several of my friends are buying goats instead of sending christmas cards which is a fab idea too. I decorate the house, same old decorations each year, but I love 'em.
As to presents, in my family we ask each other if there are any wants, doesn't guarantee you'll get them, but gives everyone ideas. I've asked for new wellies & books on veg growing etc. I've bought as presents recycled glasses & garden ornaments, a wormery & lots of books.
Not about being materialistic or buying into commercialism, for us it's about friends & family celebrating that we have each other & bringing a bit of light & cheer into the winter.

I like the idea but hate the application! Crowds, buying "stuff" and the huge commercialisaton thing. When I was in Melbourne one of the energy companies was sponsoring a "best Christmas lights" competition, I needed a shower after listening to that one.Andy Hamilton wrote:I am trying pretty hard not to be a miserable git about christmas, have has a few arguments about buying more decorations and about asking people not to give me cards or presents. I know that a lot of site members are not necessarily Christian, but I am and I would like to see Christmas a bit less secularised a lot less commercialised, and more of a focus on the reason for the season, family, charity and basically being nice to eachother.
One thing I have in common with Andy is idealism.

Whatever you do this month, have a good one!
