We are a 2 car family
We work in opposite directions to each other. OH works about 40 miles away and has a company funded car which we don't pay anything for.
I work 17 miles away, but in the opposite direction to OH. I drive a 10 year old diesel 4x4, which is actually used as it was meant to be! I pull a trailer, go "off road", drive to the recycling place in it, put the dogs in it, and drive to work in it.
I'd use public transport, but since we live out of the way, there really isn't any.
For me to get to work, I'd have to walk 2 miles into the village to get the bus south to the next village. Once there, I'd have to wait 30 minutes to catch a bus north (to go past where I live) to where I work, but the bus goes past where I work into the town. So I'd have to get off the bus in the town and get another bus south to where I work.
It's honestly much easier and quicker to drive the 17 miles in half an hour or so.
We don't really use either of the cars at the weekend, as we walk into the local village (2 miles) to do our shopping (at the local shops - we're a supermarket free zone). We try and buy anything else we need on the internet, as I'm not a fan of crowded places and lots of people, as it makes me feel ill....
I'd like to not have to use my car as much, but since both me and OH need to work full time, we've not got much choice.
