Calling the Aberdeenshire Ishers...... Help needed

Post: # 45134Post Shirley »

Stonehead is ill in bed with a nasty virus and his OH is having to do all the jobs on the croft as well as look after the two boys... Anyone who has met Stoney will know that it takes a lot to knock him off his feet but this virus has managed..... and although he gets up and tries to do some stuff to help he's exhausted after a very short time.

If anyone is able to help then please send me a pm or reply here... The day to day jobs are just about being managed by Stoney's OH but the bigger jobs like moving the pigs about and fruit tree pruning, tree planting etc are getting further and further behind schedule.

I know that the Ishers everywhere would love to help - but distance doesn't allow it... but if anyone is up this way and is able to help I know it would be really appreciated by Stoney and his OH.

That's a great idea Shirlz. I've been quite worried about him, he sounds pretty poorly and lots of important jobs on the croft aren't getting done which could quickly undo all the effort and trouble he and his family have put in over the last years. I hope you do find someone do help him out.

Not happy to hear this. :(

I know what that's like and you can spend the rest of the year chasing your tail, and never quite catching it.

If you are not able to pull together some volunteers (preferably neighbours, because that would just be easier) let us know, will you Shirlz? There's a few Aussie's over here who haven't forgot he's one of ours. We'll get the bloke some hired help.

If it does come to raising funds to pay for hired help, count me in. I too hope it won't come to that but only because:
a) I hope Stoney wakes up tomorrow morning and thinks "I feel totally fine. Must have been one of those 72hour viruses."
b) I'm sure he would prefer help from people who know him and his situation and choose to do it, not because they're paid to.

Well he's still on his feet but only just.... in typical Stoney fashion he wants to keep on working but he CAN'T because it hurts and he looked bloody awful (in a nice way - I'm sure you know what I mean)

Anyway - Purpledragon was there today and we turned up after lunch - Monkey Nuts and her son are going tomorrow morning, and we'll either go along tomorrow or on Sunday (whichever is the best for Stoney really)

I'll be sure to pass on your good wishes and have told him to check out this thread when he's able to sit at the computer.

We took over a pile of magazines and a book that was donated to the Neeps! library (Thanks again Townie Smallholder) - The Earth Care Manual by Patrick Whitefield.... it's a BIG book and so will hopefully keep him sitting still for a while.

I've got to say - that even though it's not expected, Stoney and his OH have still gone that extra yard and there will be cold roast Stonehead pork for lunch for anyone that turns up to help over the weekend.

Send Stoney my best too. Too far away to physically help, but good & healthy vibes are winging their way to him and his.

Hey Shirlz, that is excellent news - the team, I mean. Checked his blog yesterday and when I read about the photosensitivity, I couldn't help wondering if he should maybe get tested for Salmonella? His symptoms sound heaps like my mate had... and folks who home produce have to watch for it. Had a mate go down with it, and it sure sounds like Stoneys symptoms. He was diagnosed with a bowel infection at first too...

Could you maybe pass that on if you are out there next? Might be worth mentioning if he decides to go back to the doc. The right drugs sort it out pretty quickly, but the immune system is a bit haggard for a while.

Hope he's looking/feeling better next visit.

Thanks to all. Still not well, but at least I'm able to stagger about and look awful!

Oh, and a rare gnome-ish was spotted here yesterday...
