Steady on, Kev. This is exactly the sort of thing that should make us all extremely concerned.
Most of us just have suspicions, hunches based on our personal observations. We choose our spokespeople based on a variety of assumptions. I would hazard a guess that you, alongside the rest of us on this forum (and most of the world), don't really know what global warming or nuclear war mean beyond what we are told about it. At best we have an outline grasp of it, filtered through a few commentators who claim to know something. This leaves us wide open to being mislead and misinformed. In the end, most of us just have to pick the side we feel most comfortable on.
But when a scientist of this calibre makes a statement of this magnitude it would probably be a good idea for most of us to listen to him. And anyone who dismisses what he says had better be able to back up that position with some pretty weighty arguments if they want to be taken seriously.
"So-called scientist"?? I think your pique is a little misplaced here.

That's true, but I also respect your reaction, Kev. Instead of deleting it and sort of pretending it had never happened, you admitted some of what you said was a mistake (if heartfelt and understandable) and took it back. I admire that and respect it.Millymollymandy wrote:Kev, you can always go back and edit your posts if you feel you wrote something a bit too hastily!

Absolutely nothing to forgive (and who am I to do such a thing anyway?). The whole point of a forum like this is to provide for a fair exchange of views. But that inevitably means some of us will disagree. That's quite in order, but it does mean that something we say may get some unexpected reactions. Happens to me all the time.Kev wrote:I hope you can forgive it as a silly mistake on my behalf.
You didn't say anything to be ashamed of; there was nothing offensive, racists, or inciting to violence. It was a fair comment, I just put forward a different perspective, that's all.
...and if you can do it before anyone else posts a followup, it won't even show the 'Last edited...' message. You should see some of the things I've changed my mind about saying after posting!!Millymollymandy wrote: Kev, you can always go back and edit your posts if you feel you wrote something a bit too hastily!

what amazes me is that the finest brains in the world are in accord about the fate which awaits us if we don't take radical action, and SOON - and yet that blithering numbskull Blair is doing precisely buggerall about it!
Lots of platitudes, lots of three and four-letter acronymmed organisations all spouting the same, and grants to put chocolate teapots on your roof! Fat lot of good that'll do!
