How to know if a beach is safe to forage food from?

It dosen't always work, But Try asking the locals. People who live around the part of coast you want to forage from. Or even better try to talk to the local fisherman, They usually know the area better than anyone. They should be able to tell you if the water is clean and which things are safe for you to take home for the pot.
