had to share

Post: # 48899Post maggie144 »

I just had to share something with all of you.

In January i made only one new year resolution and that was to boycott all supermarkets and source all the things i buy from local and organic suppiers. and i am please to say that i have now managed to do just that.

i don't use any form of supermarket, i grow all my own veg, fruit etc
make all my jams, chutneys, mayos etc and all my meat from local farmers.

and to top it all i save myself around £25 per week shopping this way, and also save the planet in the long run too, no more packaging, no more carrier bags.

Did you all know that it takes 400 years for one carrier bag to bio degrade. so i now use a cloth bag or a cardboard box.

thankyou all for listening, i feel much better now.

if anyone else has got any tips for me to reduce my food bill even more i would love to hear them

thanks Maggie

Hi Maggie...

Well done!.. I have made the same pact with myself, I no longer visit the large multiple supermarkets and give them my hard earned cash..

I too use cloth bags and cardboard boxes for my local shopping..

I am also part of the Suma Food Co-op which helps keep my costs down, plus i can get all my Ecover cleaning products from there too so this might be worth looking into.

I invested in a greenhouse in January so hopefully get my Oh to get it put up soon... I intend growing all my own veggies this year too..

We can make a difference :flower:

Well done!

I do occasionally shop in our local co-op and while it's not perfect, they are trying to provide a greener alternative. Even their plastic bags biodegrade in 3 yrs (useful for when I forget my cloth bags  )
