Hi all from an Australian living in England with some land in Latvia...
Yes, I feel a bit shy about posting but that's why I like this site. It makes it easier to move into self sufficiency without making me feel like I have to do it all at once and be overwhelmed by it. Thanks!
Been green/eco for years but travel too much to really apply myself to plans I have. Garden and grow in the bits of land that come my way, haphazardly, am rabid recycler and do-it-your-selfer. Now my partner and I have a dilapidated old house and some land in Latvia (he's from there), deep in beautiful countryside so there's a chance to put some principles into action. Slowly and unsurely though! Quite overwhelming, erratically attended to with a few complications...we'll see.
Hope everyone's had a lovely weekend, cheers.

Gidday

Welcome from down under. Old Wombat is like you from West Island but I am in South Island.

But please don't be shy, I would be very interested in hearing something about Latvia
Cheers

Yes Jack!

When I was a young fella we used to live next door to a family of Latvians - very nice people!

Hi Redshoes and welcome. Yes Latvia sounds interesting so tell us more! Do you speak the language? (Is it Russian or similar? See, I know nothing!).

Edited to say, wasn't that cute little bloke in Taxi from Latvia?

Welcome! Very interested in the Latvia bit too, as me and 'Boss-woman' were over in Riga a few weeks ago, small world!!! I have to say it was a facinating place, and I hope to go back sometime (maybe when it's above freezing!)

Welcome and good luck with getting self-sufficientish.

MillyMollyMandy - the cute guy from taxi was played by Andy Kaufman and yes, he was meant to be a Latvian immigrant. (See the excellent film Man in the Moon for more on Andy Kaufman.)
