Nev - pot-in-pot for root storage???

Post: # 56563Post Cornelian »

Nev, I keep coming back to your wonderful article on the pot in pot fridge.

I was wondering ... do you think it would be any good for storing root veg - particularly potatoes? I know potatoes have to be kept above 5 degree C ... but I was wondering if the conditions within the pot in pot might be conducive to storage of potatoes.

Currently I store potatoes in my dark pantry in wickerwork baskets where they keep well - it has been several months since my potato harvest and I still have good quality spuds to use ... but I'm keen to find even longer ways of storing them. The pots appeal to me as they'd be rat proof and I could keep them under the house.

What about thing like carrots? (Although I have a good variety which grows year round so I generally always have some growing - the mini round carrot which is fabulous - so that isn't so important).

G'Day Cornelian,

Salad vegetables - ideal! Potatoes I am not so sure. They may miss the ventilation, but on the other hand they do OK in a clamp. I think that carrots would do OK. I will have to bung a couple of taters in my coolers and see what they do!

Thanks for that Nev (and apologies for not getting back to this sooner). It will be interesting to see how they go.
