New folks from Shropshire (and a new cherry stoner)

Post: # 60181Post Jules&Steph »

Hello from new selfsufficientish members Jules & Steph in Shropshire.
We grow all kinds of stuff, keep ducks and chickens and make our own wine, beer and cider. We also have 8 kids... ooer... so there is a bit more of Pop and Ma Larkin than the Goods here.
New this year: purchased a cherry stoner from the States. It's an old fashioned cast iron thing (still being made after a hundred years) that spits the stones out of one chute and the cherries out of another... can't wait to try it out. I can supply a link to the place we got it from if anybody wants to buy one. :dave:

Welcome. :flower:

That cherry stoner sounds like a lot of fun. :cooldude: Unfortunately it also sounds like it would need a lot of cherries, so I don't think I could justify buying one.

Hi Magnus (is that 'big dog'),

Thanks for your 'welcome'. Yes, we were lucky enough to inherit a cherry tree when we moved in but we struggled to get all the fruit preserved and frozen in the first year. We ended up selling quite a lot to the local market... from just one tree. Amazing.

Welcome

love your signature

What kind of cherry tree do you have? I have 2 but neither seem to fruit (I have only been here 2 months so they might be hiding something)

Hi Jules & Steph

Very lovely to meet you both - looking forward to reading all about your life in Shropshire - a beautiful part of the UK. I spent some time in Herefordshire myself but we're back up north now.

I'd be interested in the website of the cherry stoner - we've got a few cherry trees planted.

I've just looked at your website - wow that looks like a fantastic thing you are doing at the Walled Garden Project.

Hello and welcome. I wondered if the cherry stoner can do olives as well, or are olives too big for it?

you can stick a link in the swap shop and trading area thats what it is there for.

Ello!

Would love a cherry stoner, but the birds nick all the cherries. One year I will net the tree......

That's right. Well spotted.

I won't bore you with how I came by the handle of magnuscanis, but Magnus is my actual name (and no, I don't have any Scandinavian ancestors that I'm aware of).
