Thus far no heat - everything proving a disaster. The heating installers are doing OK ... but we still need to reach chimneys to put down flues ... and no one can reach the chimneys. The scaffolders have managed to scaffold one (although not well and changes have to be made), but the other ... now they're talking a cherry picker which has to negotiate dangerous power lines and I can't see how they can do it. All I want is heat, and an ancient house with a gothic roof structure and enormously tall chimneys simply isn't helping.
The heating installers have dismantled the interior of one of the chimneys in order to fit a fire place - this has proved the only happy thing as apparently the chimneys are made out of Convict Bricks (these two words uttered by the tradesmen in tones of hushed awe).
Apparently it is a thing of great prestige down here to have a house made out of convict bricks. ROFL.
Well, at least they'll provide me with a new garden path.
I have no idea if I will have heat tonight or not.

If you want to be happy for a day, buy a car. If you want to be happy for a weekend, get married. If you want to be happy for a lifetime, be a gardener.
That's no good mate!
I'm up here in Brisbane and it's still cold!

Next week is Melbourne and I expect I shall freeze my tail feathers off!

Actually I should have said, if it is below 20C I won't have a shower! Your method would prove a tad difficult in the shower, I think!ina wrote:It's not too bad, once you've developed a method: Just strip one small part of the body; wash and dry quickly; cover up. Repeat with next part. At least the immersion heater was working, if slow and inefficient - but any time I had a bath, I couldn't see it for steam!Millymollymandy wrote:As for those bathroom temps, if a bathroom is below 20C I will just stay dirty!
I do actually wash in a cold bathroom, very quickly. But standing wet in a shower whilst soaping myself is a complete no-no. Wet and cold is horrid!

Can't you beg, steal or borrow an electric fire from someone?Cornelian wrote:Thus far no heat - everything proving a disaster.
