Thanks to all for the responses about the land that's near me. We are still discussing the options.

The other option is to open a small shop selling locally produced crafts - with an ethical base to it.

Anyone here create things of beauty and need an outlet to earn some pennies?

Cool. Local is UK I suppose - the closer the better. As I said, I'm just thinking about it at the moment. :cooldude:

I make all kinds of stuff mostly woolens... scarfs, hats, purses, etc

Based north of the border though, not sure how 'local' you think that is :?

I am currently trying to work out what I could make to sell as I need a bit of pocket money at the moment. Please keep us posted on here and let us know a bit more of what you were thinking about.

Have you thought about knitting up a load and ebaying nearer winter? I bet matching sets for kids would fly out

I do jewellery, mainly silver and would be interested in expanding my area- here's a few piccies. How would you work out commission for pieces? 10 or 20% per piece or a flat monthly charge?

Glenniedragon - those are stunning pieces, do you have an web-site?

Millie - Yes I have considered it but there does seem to be alot of that on e-bay... although mine are maybe a little more funky than others I have seen... I might try this year.

No, I'm no big producer I just do bits for craft fairs and commissions. Just done a friends engagement ring, its lovely to know every time she looks down she'll know there'e no other ring quite like it in the world, almost immortality for me in a way! I don't charge loads, the most expensive piece in silver in the pictures is £47. As No2 son goes to school in Sept (hurrah!) I'm going to take it a bit further I think- I am contantly stunned by the amount of mark-up High st jewellers stick on. As long as I cover costs and make enough to make it worth my while I'm happy. Thanks for compliments folks!

A friend of mine made our wedding rings for us, which is lovely, very special, and rediculously cheap (she tried to charge us £40 for the 2 of them and we insisted that she took more)

Good luck with taking it further.

I think handmade jewellery takes it back to what it used to be- having a magical quality about it, the finished article absorbing some of the artisan's love and care, rather than the expensive mass produced items. I've been a jobbing jeweller for (gasp) nearly twenty(said quietly) years. My OH bought my engagement ring from the High St and it has a massive inclusion I can see with my Loupe, he has since vowed never to buy any jewellery from Retailers for me again which wasn't quite what I intended, ho hum- neither do I get flowers as I 'only let them die' what else do you do with cut flowers, I digress

have a look at setting up an etsy shop. They're free to run from what i can work out.

Or Ebay - handmade stuff sells well on there, especially if they're one off pieces.

Hi Tigz
I make greetings cards using a lot of recycled materials. They're fairly light and could be posted. I also do the odd bit of artwork, again using recycled materials but they might be a bit heavy to post regularly. I would do a lot more but don't have an outlet for it so this would be great.

Let me know if you do go for it and I will send you some samples.

Cheers
Zoe

Thanks guys. I am really interested in this and would love to keep you there as some of my suppliers. I want the shop to be really eclectic mix of items and don't want to over price things - but obviously have to run the shop, so I don't know how I will price things.

I'll definitely keep you posted.
