Up the Haka

Post: # 64207Post Jack »

Gidday

I have been up the Haka the last few days. Well that is how it is said locally, but for those who aren't local I have been up the Hakataramea Valley. I've been feeding the stock and looking after the dogs on a Invercory Station that runs up onto the Kirkliston Range.

I amd feeding 3 mobs of sheep, each in the thousands, and 2 mobs of cattle which number in the hundreds, and I can do it all sitting on my big fat backside in the cab of an 80 hp. tractor, and the only time I have to get out is to open the gates.

Yesterday I tried to take a few photos but the sun was so bright that not many came out too good.

Image
Looking down the valley towards the St.Mary's range and then Mt. Dommett and on to the Kakanui Ranges.

Looking straight up at the Kirkliston Range.

Image
And one mob of ewes I have been feeding.

But today was a bit different.

The same mob of ewes.

And one of the mobs of cattle.

She's a great country Eh!

Great photos Jack!

Snow here again today, haven't seen so much snow in years - have you had more than usual? This is how I remember winters from my childhood, but we have had comparitively mild winters the last 7 or 8 years that I've been back.

Looks pretty dry there too, have you had enough rain?

Gidday

Well our rugby players used to come mainly from farming backgrounds and carry around strainerposts and things, Now they are just a bunch of wooses who "work" out in a gymn and spend the rest of their traing in a hair salon.

I've never understood this obsession with the gym: you have to pay for stuff that I (and lots of others in the country) get paid for doing! :?
