I saw this TV programme advertised last night. Didn't watch it so perhaps I am spouting incorrectly. I had better things to do.

The premise is that a bunch of individuals build accommodation and live on a landfill site from the stuff that is discarded.

Now, my problem with this is that it is advertised as the ultimate eco challenge.

1. Surely that is to not fill the landfill in the first place.

2. This would be better billed as a post apocalyptic survival series. Preferably with mutant monsters trying to kill contestants etc...

3. It also seems to imply that to be eco sensitive, personal hygeine goes straight out of the window.

I don't see why not washing and hanging around in refuse improves the world. See the slums of Sao Paolo for further examples. Most cultures from the jungles to the Romans, Greeks, Vikings etc.understood infection risks from disposal sites. I.e. put the garbage outside the walls and downstream from the drinking water. :?

I think this may be the sort of programme that clouds the eco/ self sufficiency/ green issue for the sake of ratings.

Along with this i'm sure the producers of Big Brother have never read Orwell.......

Hi there - sorry but there is a thread already started about this in the TV section by those of us who watched it!

Oh and hygeine was huge on the agenda for health reasons!

As it turns out, the rubbish is not from a genuine landfill. It has been accumilated and then put next to a real landfill. So where is the authenticity there? (With health & safety in mind of course).
If you think it is wrong to do or say something, think about it and choose wisely.

If you know it is wrong to do or say something, don't bloody do it!
