I live in a small block of flats. the council leave us recycling bags. SO WHY DO THEY THEN REFUSE TO COLLECT THEM??!? they collect from the houses on the rest of the street, but they wont pick up the collection of rcycling bags from outside the flats. me and a few others do our best to leave them in plain sight at the front of the flats so the bin men don't have to come into our carpark.

THEN horror of horrors i saw some bloke from another flat go and pick up the red recycling bags and shove them into our communal bins!!! AAAAARGH!!!

sorry if i should have stuck this in the recycling bit but I'm just so peeved!

I dont understand the troubles u lot in the UK have with your rubbish - its a nightmare! What confuses me even more is why some people have to do the recycling thing properly and they can check your bins etc and yet my friend who lives in a flat has to use a communal bin that everything goes into regardless of what it is. Why are they exempt from recycling?

It's truly bonkers.

We live out of town, so our only recycling collection service is a monthly collection of high quality paper because the council can sell it at a premium,

But the people who live in town, within easy walking distance of the recycling centre, have a fairly comprehensive recycling collection service.

Apparently, it's more cost effective to have a collection in town but not in the country.

Despite that, we're expected to pay the same council tax as the people in town who live in houses with the same valuation. They also get street lights, street cleaning, snow clearance four times a day or more (once or twice if we're lucky), better roads maintenance, etc etc.

even worse here, we have the one bin and no recycle bins or boxes. We can't leave paper out of the bin for collection because as from next week if the bin lid doesn't close or any bags etc are left out of the bin those won't be collected and the bin not emptied The note also urged recycling  How do they propose we do that then? We don't have the opportunity to do so unless we drive several miles to the recycle point. To me that kind of defeats the whole object.

I do have a composter but any jars or tins have to go in the bin as I don't get enough to warrant a trip to the recycling point.

Paper I make briquettes or use it on the fire to start it.

Don't get me started on recycling...

I just moved from an area where they had a very good recycling collection service - to somewhere without one at all! I just can't bring myself to throw away my plastic bottles and tin cans and I have a small mountain of them building up in the kitchen.

Does anyone know of a recycling point in Nottingham for such things? I live near Trent Bridge and don't have a car.... so the nearer the better!

I did find somewhere for cardboard at least and have started myself a compost bin

Don't start me off either! I live behind a factory and although we get our rubbish collected, they don't collect our recycling - they say it's too much trouble. Luckily I pass the new recycling facility every day on the way to work so I can pop in easily - with the stuff from work too.... but I pay my taxes!
