the spuds have all gone

Post: # 70612Post red »

into our tummies that is.

we have finally run out of home grown spuds.. which we have been eating since June (and more than usual as we like our pasta and rice.. but we cannot grow those!) - so not bad for our first year here.. 1/4 years worth of spuds, and dug a bit early due to blight.
next year.. we aim for a whole year's worth

What about making gnocchi next year - I love that but I've never tried making it. Let's hope for good spuds and toms next year!

Easily done - for me, one way of using lots of tatties when they need using up quickly (like now, due to them all being blighted :( ).

They are a bit like fresh pasta, but made from cooked, finely mashed potatoes and flour, then formed into rolls, and little bits cut off that. Stick into boiling saltwater and wait until risen to the top. (Not a very good explanation, is it - need to find a recipe somewhere... :? ) Absolutely delicious just with butter and either basil or sage.

I believe they call it gnocchi, too, when they are made with polenta instead of flour.

Just remembered I'd posted a recipe (and other tattie recipes) a while ago:

Very similar to Polish pyzy.

Just been digging up some potatoes, quite incredible really as this raised border was new last year, i didn't plant potatoes there, just dug up half a bucketful when weeding getting ready to put in new seeds
Opinionated but harmless

I could post an identical message!! But we have 2 meals worth left!! We planted 24 earlies, 6 seconds and 54 main crop! Dug up the earlies the first week of June.
