I get a bit of Tinnitus, as does most of my family on my Mums side. I assumed it was genetic. I don't eat diet foods and mostly eat home-made stuff with an exception about once a week (and that exception will probably be either a takeaway or chocolate or maybe some quick meal like fishcakes).

In the past I've had some pretty stressful times and lived off junk food and the tinnitus wasn't really any better or worse.

Be nice to sort it, provided it's not caused by cheese, can't live without cheese!!

Well I popped in to the Holland and Barret at the weekend and they recommended trying something to improve circulation. I'm not convinced it's a circulation problem - I thought it was something to do with the nerve.

I bought some homeopathic remedies for circulation anyway (for my veins) so I'll see if it does any good. It's been a bit better the last few days, maybe because I am not eating so much sweatner. The stress certainly hasn't eased off.

At one point it just stopped, completely, for a few minutes. It was really wierd, like the whole world went quiet. Oh it would be bliss to get rid of it.

if your tinnitus remains after the job has finished you could ask your doctor to refer you to a hearing specialist who may give you a tinnitus masker.

this looks just like a hearing aid, however the batteries produce a noise instead of helping you to hear better..

the noise is supposed to be better than the tinnitus noise, and like the ticking of a clock in an empty room you are meant to be able to get used to the sound the masker makes.

i used one for a few years, and although i still have the masker i reckon the sound of the tinnitus is better than the sound of the masker!

there is also a tinnitus organisation, who may be able to help.. they do advise you shouldnt drink any caffeine or tea or eat chocolate, red wine etc, etc...

Jack, I got a homeopathic remedy for circulation from the local health food store. Only been taking it for a week so I don't know how good it is yet.

The tinnitus has been a lot better although it's just this minute come back, probably because I was thinking about it.

Now I am thinking it might be connected to the sweeteners as the stress is definitely about as bad as it can be now but the tinnitus has eased off. Only 3 more days to go!

My father in law suffers from tinitis and I think his was caused from working down the mines for decades.

I always put sweeteners in my coffee as I can't stand the taste of sugar in it and I don't suffer from all those problems Martin listed!

even if you don't perceptibly react to it, I really wouldn't touch Aspartame with the proverbial ten-foot bargepole - a little sugar or honey is FAR safer!

Well I always consider I've already poisoned my body by smoking for decades so what's a bit of aspartame or E numbers gonna do? Not to mention the times when the powers that be have declared that spuds/bread/eggs/you name it are BAD for you - shock horror gasp!

Seriously I've never thought about sweeteners or knew there was anything wrong with them. I don't OD on the stuff and only put one in my coffee, and don't drink that much coffee either.

all of the things you have mentioned are natural substances (even tobacco) - Aspartame is a very nasty synthetic, well-known to cause mental and physical problems, both long and short-term - the only reason it is used is because it is cheap for the manufacturers of junk food and drinks.
I'm amazed it's still on sale, and doubt the sanity of any parent who allows their children anywhere near the stuff! :?

Um.....I'd back that lovely natural nicotine for high toxicity over the nasty synthetic aspartame any day
