I made a wonderful little dryer last year from an old bedside cabinet that was left in our house when we bought it. I bought a sheet of wire mesh (small enough to stop fruit flies) and replaced the sides, back, door, top and bottom, and then put some shelves (made of mesh too) on the inside.
Unfortunately, the wife nicked it for storing/drying cheese, so I'll have to cobble together another next spring.
