Imsomnia
The last refuge of the insomniac is a sense of superiority to the sleeping world.

Must say, I never felt particularly superior when I was pacing the corridors in halls, or sitting in the windowless kitchen doing the Times crossword and drinking valerian tea at 3 a.m...
You poor thing, Andy, hope it doesn't last too long. *hug*

Can it not be rather productive to go through the superior stage, I wish I could have another 6 hours in every day sometimes, I might get stuff done...
Have some chamomile tea and a drop of lavender on a tissue tucked in a shirt pocket or your pillow... that should help.

i've just come out of a week long bout of insomnia - i usually get it when i've got a lot on - even if its only leisure stuff - in this instance it was starting on the new allotment, my brain just wouldnt turn off! however a weeks worth of clearing and digging has finally sorted it out although the week has passed by in a bit of a haze!
still though, i love having the internet when its 4am and i cant sleep.

Insomnia
Glad it only lasts a night or two, mine has lasted 33 years and numerous medications.
Calcium and magnesium help, maybe you're periodically lacking those minerals and so you don't sleep.
I'm glad I'm finally getting a handle on my sleeplessness, I thought I'd be keeping the pill company working for life
