Excuse the caps but I have heard the question too much-comfrey, a pinch of cayenne and a dash of cider vinegar in his dinner will help the arthritis mightily-

Peggy Sue, that sound bloody expensive glucossamine Eh! Go to the supermarketand get some off the shelf. Comfrey will not hurt horses if they eat it. I wouldn't force feed though as horses are smart than we are and might know when they have had enough.
As for external use of comfrey, I just made a very strong tea and mixed it with coconut oil.

I give my horse (Gremlin) some semi dired comfrey occassionally. He likes it.
In November I put in a post about building my Comfrey patch. Well the sides are still up and hopefully I will get it filled and planted this weekend.

I have used comfrey as an ointment and encouraged all my animals to eat it for some 20 years. I love it. The ointment is great for any wounds (I add a little lavender, honeysuckle and/or calendula for wounds) as well, leaves as a poultice for sprains and strains (both animal and human) and the animals and poultry love to eat it. The geese particularly go crazy for it and eat heaps, the chickens eat a lot just at the start of winter I have noticed, pigs, goats, donkey and horses as well. Fantastic. As others have said it will spread like crazy, dies down in winter here but reappears in spring. I believe it is difficult to grow from seed (I think some varieties will not actually grow at all by seed) and most people find it easier to grow it from a piece of root.
