cough mixture
brilliant cough remedy, copied off http://www.nicelytoasted.net
You know those nasty coughs you get at the end of a cold? The ones that are worse at night or when laying down and won’t let you sleep? I hate those.
Here’s a brilliant remedy that works in seconds and lasts all night (well, nearly).
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (or a couple of drops of tabasco - I was out of cayenne)
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 tbsp honey (I use the manuka honey as it’s supposed to have extra antibacterial properties - worth a shot, hey?)
1 tbsp cider vinegar
2 tbsp water
Mix well and take 3 teaspoons to calm the cough. Keep the rest by the bed just in case. Amazing.

Tickly Cough Remedy
I used a piece if finely sliced root ginger, 2 table spoons of honey, 1/2 sliced lemon, a crushed clove of garlic and the secret ingredient... a pinch of cayene peper.
Put into a saucepan with 1/2 mug of water and slowly simmer for 10 mins, stirring slowly (if you can stand the smell)
Now i had a real tickly cough all day...every time i breathed in, the tickle would make me cough and heave....(YUK)
Right, slowly spoon of the liquid into a cup after 15 mins of simmering,...let it cool a little (5 mins) and slowly sip the mixture...
The honey is sweet and it helps coat the throat, the Ginger and cayene has a burning feeling that instantly stop the tickle in my throat within 30 seconds...
What was left in the saucepan i bottled and put in the fridge to microwave the following day i or later if i needed it...but i never did...my cough miraculously vanished with the first few sips...
It worked for me so try it if you feel brave....
Its amazing really, the simple thing that cost so little...

Brilliant brilliant brilliant!!! I've now tried them both, and they were wonderful. And didn't taste as bad as I expected, either.
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much!!!

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

Great to hear that most of the remedies posted are similar to the one I've been using 'for ever'
lemon, honey, ginger wine and hot water (I do add an old fashioned beechams powder or soluble aspirin if the cold/flu is still in the 'throws')
Years ago we were given 'Medicinal essence of cinnamon' it was foul (probably better in a lemon/honey drink) but it sure killed a cold stone dead

this cough mixture recipe is amazing....hubby has had an annoying cough since christmas that he just couldn't shift so I got all of the ingredients together ready to make up a batch and, lo and behold, the cough disspeared without him having to taste a drop...like I say...amazing stuff

Give us Lord, a bit o' sun,
A bit o' work and a bit o' fun;
Give us all in the struggle and sputter
Our daily bread and a bit o' butter.
