It's a bit strange that the bank says nothing can be done because of the Data Protection Act. I suspect that once again the Data Protection Act is either being misinterpreted or used as a figleaf to cover their poor anti-fraud systems.

I love the fact that it was a DD set up to go to a charity. I guess the person doing it was really trying to teach him a lesson without being greedy themselves - with the added bonus that if he stops the DD he's stopping a donation to a charity which will look bad for him! (goes off to look for devil emoticon! lol) :evil2:
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Me too! Although I did wonder if that's just because it's easier to set up a DD to charity with just sort code and account no, whereas probably quite difficult to put money into your own personal account from someone else's.

I have to say I agree with his original comments. There’s not a lot someone can do with bank details and name and address. Apart from set up a DD obviously! The thing is though that only a business, charity or other legitimate organisation can make DD collections. It cannot be done by an individual. You also have the guarantee. So all JC has to do is ring his bank and he gets the money back within 24 hours.

But if he does that, he'll be branded tight! He does deserve to lose the money after his idiocy of publishing his details. Maybe the bank should tell him he's not secure enough...
