Teeth

I’ve just been to the dentist and it’s not good news. She found one hole in a tooth which needs to be filled but she also said I need to have to have two of my wisdom teeth out. My wisdom teeth are a little strange because they grow at right angles from the back of the jaw towards the front.
That’s not been a problem before now and they were probably never going to even erupt. However the gum has receded away from one of them and is starting to go on the other leaving a cavity (where the uneven ‘top’ of the wisdom tooth is resting against the tooth next to it. She said it’s only going to decay and its best that they go as because they are on their side they can’t be filled properly. So I’ve been referred to the local Dental Access Clinic whatever one of those is.

I had mine taken out earlier this year - they'd come through, but at right angles so that the bottoms were pointing into my cheek. They'd decayed so that there was only half of each left.

Get them done asap!! otherwise, you'll end up with abcesses - and they're not fun to deal with, and no painkillers will touch them - i ended up being given morphine, and voltarol and a number of other drugs to overdose me enough to knock me out.

It wasn't a pleasant experience, and i was terrified of the op (it was more the thought of them touching my teeth than the actual procedure), but it all went well, and the GA that they use now was great - i was wide awake afterwards and went shopping!

I had mine out 2 years ago, I agree with Fee, get them out asap. Stops you worrying about them for one.

I hated the idea of being out, so I had mine done under local anesthetic, not all that bad, though I had to have the left side done, then go back a month later and have the right side done.

One of mine was also badly absessed and the 4 injections they gave me couldn't numb it completely but it was all over in 10 seconds and better out than in.

Plus I got to eat Ice Cream loads... and OH made me sandwiches and cut them up tiny so I could eat them... I enjoyed the pampering

I have to wait to hear from the clinic before i know when i have to go in. I'm not even sure what type of op it will be yet. I assumed it would be under a local but from what a couple of people have said.....

I don't think it will be a difficult extraction as they're both fairly exposed.

Mine were full GA - it was the other way round for me, the local anaesthetics don't work, so i was terrified aboutit hurting!

Apparently, they timed the anaesthetic's efects - all of 30 mins they lasted! I came round asking for painkillers!

Just got back from having the simple part - the filling- done.

I asked the dentist about the extraction and she said that they don't do general anaesthetics for extractions anymore unless its a special case. So local it is.
She did offer to refer me privately if I really wanted a general. Would only cost about £800 :)
