Hi and welcome birchmoon.
Backgammon does indeed come from back bacon. It was first invented in the middle ages and the first board was made from dried bacon. Alternate strips were chared in the fire to make a similar board as we see today. Over the centuries the game changed and of course none of this is true
Sorry could not resist. I have not got a clue where the name originates from.
However, I do like a game but always end up making up rules as we go along as I can never find anyone who knows. Worse still it is generally in a pub, so there is the added bonus of strangers who think they know too trying to you the rules.
Back to the welcome, hope you enjoy the site

I used to play backgammon a lot and still have a board. I learnt in Greece where the game is very popular. So I did once know the rules and even knew a 2nd game to play on the board - there are many variations. I never got the hang of the gambling dice bit though.
Anyway with all the spam at the moment my first thought was backgammon - gambling - spammer!

He he, I wondered if I would catch anyone out.
Just had a quick google for the origins of backgammon

been around for quite a while in different forms, I guess I am not the only one to play by differing rules.
