I haven't tried felting yet - trying spinning wool just now. The shop where I got the spinning things also does felting - their website is
http://www.twistfibrecraft.co.uk/ - might be of interest.
Best wishes,
Alexandra.

I knit things, and then bung them in the washing machine to felt them.
I'd like to try real felting one day ,I'll need to find cheap/free fleece first so I can practice.
I'd also like to experiment with natural dyes from the garden (lavender, heather, beetroot, etc)

When I got the first fleece last summer it was to be for felting. The plan was to do it in winter but -plans being what they are
haven't a proper space at waist height (there's the bath but I can't kneel at the moment) and it's too cold to do it outside
I've been spinning the fleece instead - with a view to knitting/crocheting and felting afterwards
How lovely to get an evening class in something practical
was it all wet felting or did you nuno and needle felt too?

ooh and http://www.scottishfibres.co.uk/index.html These people are really nice if you need any bits (including fibre if you want ready cleaned)
If you want raw wool I advise keeping an eye on freecycle, ebay or getting to know your nearest shepherd

I have done a bit of felting. I did a one day workshop at the place I used to go spinning, but that was a couple of years ago and I haven't done much since.

It was all kinds, wet, needle and nuno felting. Great fun. I have already been spending some of my christmas money at scottish fibres. We have a mill up here that processes Shetland fleece so have been on a visit there too
Haven't managed to pick up any cheap unprocessed fleece yet but my mum has some carders I can steal as soon as I get hold of some

I might be putting a 'course in spinning, felting, weaving' on my birthday list - the nearest was 50 miles off in Sussex though - others are in Yorkshire and Scotland , even further to travel and a longer stay

felting
Only an occasional visitor to this forum but yes, I've done a one-day felting workshop and then done a bit at home. It is addictive I think!
Hoping to try some natural dyeing soon. Have just posted a couple of queries about dyeing and yarns etc.
good luck and happy felting

Oooh yeah!mauzi wrote:Wombat, had a laugh at that one. What we call a big town, our nearest, is 50 miles away (10,000 people) and our local shop is 26 miles away. Bit of a different perspective
